Keen to try some more local food, we did a food tour in the Miraflores and Surquillo neighbourhoods with Food Walking Tour Peru. Below are a few of the dishes we tried:
Parihuela @ El Arrecife
A hearty, spicy soup made from 6 different types of seafood including octopus, squid and a red crab dramatically hanging over the side of the bowl!
Ceviche @ Sabroso
Literally translated as ‘yummy’ this guy is famous for his ceviche. The lime and chilli really packed a punch, absolutely delicious.
Inca Kola
This is more popular and sells more than Coca Cola in Peru. Bright yellow and tastes like bubblegum!
Lucuma Fruit Shake
We headed to the market to try some fruits and stopped by a lady who was making fruit shakes. We tried one with the super fruit Lucuma, milk and honey which had quite a unique taste.
Tamale
A lady on the street was selling these corn snacks but what was really great was the onion and chilli salsa that came with it.
Seco de Codero @ Samantha
A lamb stew served with garlic rice and bacon beans. Similar to a Caribbean curry with two large chunks of slowly stewed lamb. Say no more.
